Sept 15, 2024 Last night, San José del Cabo burst into vibrant celebration for Mexico’s Independence Day, and it was an unforgettable evening of pride, unity, and tradition. The community gathered in the Antonio Mijares public square to experience the iconic Grito de Independencia and enjoy a night filled with culture and excitement.
As the plaza filled with people, the festive mood was set with traditional music and folkloric dance performances, all organized by the Institute of Culture and the Arts (ICA). The energy was contagious as families, friends, and visitors came together to honor Mexico’s rich history and heritage.
At 10:00 PM, the traditional “Independence Shout” was led by Oscar Leggs Castro, the municipal president of Los Cabos, accompanied by his distinguished wife and honorary president of the SMDIF, Flora Aguilar de Leggs, as well as military authorities, from the Municipal Palace. Together, they delivered the historic cry, shouting “¡Viva México!” as the crowd passionately responded in unison. The entire square echoed with the pride and spirit of the nation as everyone celebrated this momentous occasion. 🇲🇽🎉 Long live the Mexican party, long live Los Cabos, long live Mexico!
Adding to the excitement, the evening saw the crowning of the Queen of the Patriotic Holidays 2024. Congratulations to the new queen, whose presence added even more joy and significance to the celebrations!
Following the powerful cry, a spectacular fireworks display lit up the night sky, casting brilliant colors over the town. The excitement carried on as the streets around the plaza were filled with local vendors offering a variety of delicious food and drinks.
Guests indulged in traditional Mexican street food like tacos, elote (street corn), and sweet churros, while the festive mood was enhanced by the availability of alcoholic beverages and colorful blue and red Mexican cocktails that were especially popular among the crowd. These vibrant drinks added a fun and festive touch to the evening.
For those seeking a sit-down dining experience, many local restaurants remained open, offering authentic meals. However, reservations were essential as the town was buzzing with visitors, all eager to enjoy the celebrations.
